Community members will brave the icy waters at Dorchester’s Tenean Beach on Tuesday, Jan.1 for the second annual Brian Leahy Memorial Polar Bear Plunge.

The event might not be as established as South Boston’s L Street Brownies’ annual New Year swim, but it has become a hit, with hundreds braving the chilly water last year.

The event raises money for the Neponset based Leahy-Holloran Community Center.

Registration starts at 12:30 p.m. at the beach and there is a $15 fee.

After neighbors take the plunge there will be a pizza party, sponsored by Joe Sammartino and the Phillips Family of Restaurants, at Boston Bowl on Morrissey Boulevard.
