Boston Shines events in Dorchester

With spring in full bloom residents are getting ready for the annual Boston Shines events set for this Saturday. In Dorchester there are a number of activities for those looking to get a little dirty helping their community shine.

In Fields Corner residents and advocates will be out early sprucing up the neighborhood. Those who would like to participate should meet at the Field House at Town Field from 8:30 a.m. – 9 a.m. for registration and orientation. The event is expected to run from 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. More information can be found here.

In Codman Square starting at 10 a.m. families and neighbors will meet at the Dr. Loesch Family Park for a morning of neighborhood cleaning. More information and cleaning locations can be found here.

In Uphams Corner participants will meet in front of the the Uphams Corner Main Street office, located at 545 Columbia Rd., at 1 p.m. The cleanup is expected to run until 5 p.m. More information can be found here.

In Savin Hill residents will be tackling Savin Hill Park Saturday. Participants will meet at the end of Caspian Way at 10 a.m. The cleanup is expected to run until 3 p.m.

Sharon’s Park, located on the corner of Columbia Road and Buttonwood Street, will also be receiving some TLC Saturday. Those who would like to lend a hand are encouraged to meet at the park at 10 a.m.

Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and bring sunscreen and water. Tools and trash bags will be provided.

Boston Shines, now in its 11th-year, is a city-wide spring cleaning that brings together residents, businesses, city officials, and community members to help beautify their neighborhoods. More information about city-wide activities and the history of the program can be found here.
