Last year's Pumpkin Float at Pope John Paul II Park

With fall here and Halloween not too far off, it’s time for the Boston Natural Areas Network’s 12th Annual Pumpkin Float.

Set for Saturday at the Hallet Street entrance to Pope John Paul II Park, the event has become a hit with hundreds of families, lots of cider, and of course plenty of pumpkins.

Participants who wish to float their jack-o-lanterns down the Neponset River must provide their own carved pumpkin and BNAN staff will take care of the rest. Pumpkins, however, cannot be larger than eight-inches or they will not float.

The event is free, but participants must check in. Registration at the Hallet Street entrance to the park begins at 5:30 p.m. and the float starts at 6 p.m.

More information about the event can be found on BNAN’s website.
