Sherry Nguyen, 18, a volunteer with the Boston Natural Areas Network, helped set up the pumpkins Saturday.

Hundreds descended on Pope John Paul II Park in Dorchester Saturday for a chance to see the 12th Annual Pumpkin Float.

Sponsored by the Boston Natural Areas Network and the Department of Conservation and Recreation, the event has become a favorite among families who send their carved creations on a journey down the Neponset River.
