Mayor-elect Martin J. Walsh and Katherine Craven, executive director of the UMass Building Authority, were recently honored by the Dorchester-based non-profit Friends for Children.

With a mission to support children and families in need, the group has worked in Boston for over 30-years.

Walsh was named the “Man of the Year” by the organization for his long-time partnership with the group as a board member.

Craven was named the “Woman of the Year” for her work with the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress.

The two award recipients were honored at a December 6 ceremony at the Philips Old Colony House in Dorchester.
