Despite construction setbacks, Herb Chambers is still committed to selling pre-owned BMWs from the Morrissey Boulevard lot that once housed the Channel 56 studios.

“It’s still happening,” said Paul Losordo, corporate counsel for Chambers. “There are a lot of things that need to get done for a project to work.”

The project, which was approved by the Boston Redevelopment Authority in early 2013, is expected to break ground in the spring of 2014, according to Losordo.

Losordo said the project at 75 Morrissey Blvd. was delayed because developers missed the 2013 construction season.

“There’s a lot that goes into it after the initial hurrahs,” said Losordo. “It’s a good process, but it’s not the quickest process.”

Chambers, a Dorchester-born car tycoon, owns the nearly 100,000-square-foot site on which a nearly 28,000-square-foot building sits.

Plans proposed in late 2012 called for the redevelopment of the site, which is adjacent to the Boston Globe’s offices, for a certified pre-owned BMW dealership.

In addition to housing an estimated 150 pre-owned vehicles, the property is expected to have a service department. No auto-body work or painting, however, are planned for the location.

Minor work is expected to be made to the property to prepare it for its new use. The grounds will be revamped, the existing building renovated, and LED lights and signage installed. The antennas on top of the building are also expected to be removed.

The work is estimated to take six to eight months.

Once completed, the Morrissey Boulevard property will be Chambers’ 51st dealership.
