Menino does his best Vito Corleone impression in video parody
Anyone who thinks Mayor Tom Menino takes himself too seriously wasn’t at the JFK Library Thursday, where MassINC celebrated its 15th anniversary with a who’s who of Massachusetts politics and the media. One of the highlights was a three-minute video parody of “The Godfather” with Menino, doing his best Vito Corleone, meeting with an actor playing Don Chiofaro, the developer whose attempts to build a 780-foot tower on the Rose Kennedy Greenway have met with opposition at City Hall. (The actor playing Chiofaro looks an awful lot like lawyer Bill Green.) “The Philistines at the BRA told me it would cast a shadow on the Greenway, that it would cast a shadow on the food trucks and make the sandwiches cold,” says the Chiofaro character while Menino, sitting behind a desk, strokes a stuffed animal. Funny, right? The evening also included an emotional moment when the crowd gave Emily Rooney, just back from her father’s funeral, a big round of applause.
