The Globe and Boston.com reported this week that Grace Kathleen Grillo edged out her twin brother by one minute to become what hospital officials believe is the first baby born in the Boston-area this year.

A spokeswoman at Brigham and Women's Hospital, where the Grillo twins were born, said on Sunday that medical facility was one of 10 in the Boston area that shared news with one another about their first births of 2012.

But three other hospitals have contacted us to say that they also partook in the annual tradition of trying to determine the area's first newborn of the new year.

Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton, Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge and Tufts Medical Center in Boston were omitted from our original list of hospitals that shared news with one another about their first births of 2012.

The other hospitals that reported their earliest births of 2012 were: Beverly Hospital, Emerson Hospital in Concord, North Shore Medical Center in Salem, South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, and in Boston: Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston Medical Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, and St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center.
