Hubway to celebrate first anniversary with downtown event

The Hubway bike-sharing system will celebrate its first anniversary at a Tuesday evening party in downtown Boston.

Hubway’s Birthday Bash will include food, live music, and a short presentation by Mayor Thomas M. Menino. The free celebration will run from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, at the “Let’s Talk About Bikes” exhibit at the Boston Society of Architects’ downtown space., 290 Congress St.

Hubway began service on July 28, 2011, with 600 bicycles at 60 stations around Boston. the system logged more than 140,000 rides and recruiting more than 3,700 annual members and nearly 30,000 casual users before its first season ended last Nov. 30.

It began its 2012 season on April 3, adding new locations at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, the Seaport Hotel, and Cambridge Street in downtown Boston. It is in the process of expanding into Brookline, Cambridge, and Somerville.
