Teen Voices magazine shutting down after a 24-year run

Teen Voices, a nonprofit Boston-based magazine, is shutting down after 24 years of existence, according to Charles E. Carter, Jr., chairman of magazine’s board of directors.

The magazine is closing because of financial difficulties, said Carter, in a memo to readers.

"I am writing to inform you that the Board of Directors has made the very difficult decision to cease operations of Teen Voices, Inc. effective August 31, 2012, while we pursue partnerships with other organizations who may assume all or some of the programs that Teen Voices provides to girls,'' the memo said.

The memo said that the organization lost its longtime executive director in July 2011, and donations and grants had declined by $300,000 from the previous year.

Founded in 1988, Teen Voices has 45,000 print readers and a website that is seen by readers in 204 countries.
