Transit Police arrested a Maynard man after a passenger reported that he had touched her inappropriately, the MBTA said.
The woman told Transit Police she boarded an inbound Red Line train around 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 3 and was twice touched inappropriately by a man, the MBTA said.
After the woman reported the incident to Transit Police, the Criminal Investigation Unit was able to locate 38-year-old Ashish Mittal, who lives in Maynard. Mittal, who was arrested on Oct. 11 and arraigned on a charge of indecent assault and battery in Boston Municipal Court on Oct. 12.
Transit Police lauded the woman for reporting the crime and working with investigators to identify her assailant. Transit Police encourage any other passengers who have been sexually assaulted to contact the Criminal Investigation Unit at 617-222-1050 or the Intelligence Unit at 617-222-1170.
