The anti-poverty agency Action for Boston Community Development is marking a half-century of serving low-income residents of Greater Boston with a gala celebration at Boston Marriott Copley Place.

The Nov. 2 event will include a performance by Grammy Award-winner Natalie Cole and the posthumous induction of Peace Corps founder Sargent Shriver into the ABCD Hall of Fame. Bianca de la Garza, a co-anchor at WCVB-TV, will host the event.

“It is always a privilege for me to be a part of helping those in need,” Cole said in a statement released by ABCD. “I look forward to the evening.”

Mark Kennedy Shriver, son of Sargent Shriver and Eunice Kennedy Shriver, will speak at the event. The younger Shriver is author of the book “A Good Man: Rediscovering My Father” and senior vice president of US programs for The Save the Children Fund, an international non-profit organization that provides support to children in developing countries.

“We are thrilled to have the world-acclaimed, incredibly talented Natalie Cole and fellow poverty-fighter Mark Shriver with ABCD to celebrate 50 years of making a difference for low-income people and communities,” said John J. Drew, president and chief executive officer of the organization, in the statement.

ABCD serves more than 85,000 low-income residents of Greater Boston, through programs for education, child care, career development, fuel assistance, weatherization, food pantries, elder services, housing, and homelessness.

“ABCD pushes the envelope every day, finding ways to make lives better for those struggling in poverty,” Drew said in the statement. “That is our mission.”
