The Massachusetts Bay Commuter Rail will host an all-day fund-raiser for the American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts at South Station on Friday.
From 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 7, volunteers will accept donations by cash or check at the transit hub, and the commuter rail will match up to $5,000 in donations. The proceeds will go to support Red Cross relief efforts in disasters such as Hurricane Sandy, which caused devastation in more southerly parts of the East Coast.
The Red Cross provided food, shelter, and relief supplies to thousands affected by Sandy, it said in a statement.
Amanda Giles, host of radio station WMJX-Magic 106.7’s “Morning Magic,” will participate in the fund-raising event, which will also include a lunchtime performance by singers from the North End-based Street Magic Acapella.
