East Boston voters overwhelmingly chose to re-elect Barack Obama on Tuesday, and to send Democrat Elizabeth Warren to the US Senate.

Obama received 7,619 votes in the neighborhood, nearly three times as many as the 2,595 for Republican challenger and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, according to preliminary results compiled by the Globe.

Warren received 7,013 votes in East Boston, while Republican incumbent Senator Scott Brown received 3,329.
