A free bike ride will explore current and planned stretches of the East Boston Greenway.

The Boston Natural Areas Network will host a Sunday ride through East Boston’s bicycle paths later this month, the network announced Thursday.

The free ride will begin near the Airport T Station in Bremen Street Park and proceed along the East Boston Greenway and back roads to explore expansion efforts for the Greenway, the network said.

The tour will visit existing bicycle facilities and provide a discussion of how new ones planned for the pathway can make the ride easier, according to the non-profit group, which works to expand, enhance, and preserve local open spaces.

The ride will begin at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25, and will traverse 6 – 8 miles of mostly flat roads and paths at a leisurely pace, with frequent stops, the network said. It will end at Piers Park by 6 p.m., in time for a concert hosted by Zumix, an East Boston-based nonprofit music program for children and teens.

Riders are required to wear helmets and to register in advance. For more information or to register, inquire at 617-542-7696 or info@bostonnatural.org.
