Mass. creative council to host fashion, visual arts forums at MassArt
The advisory council for the state’s creative economy plans to talk fashion and visual arts with businesses, organizations and individuals as part of a statewide tour focused on creative industries.
The Massachusetts Creative Economy Council is scheduled to host two forums at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in August as part of its CreativeNEXT tour.
The tour stops at MassArt are schedule for Thursday, August 9, at 2 p.m. when the council will discuss fashion, and Wednesday, August 22, at 5:30 p.m. when the focus will be on visual arts and craft.
The council, which advises the state Legislature and the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development was established in 2008 with the goal of developing a statewide strategy for the growth of the creative economy.
With this 21-stop statewide tour, the council aims to meet with local businesses and organizations to discuss the future and potential growth of the state’s creative economy with a focus on the design, film, media, publishing, visual and performing art, music, architecture, and video game industries.
“There is a tremendous amount of knowledge to be gained and untapped opportunities to explore for the creative economy businesses and organizations from around the Commonwealth,” Helena Fruscio, the Creative Economy Industry director for the state, said in a statement. “We hope to give voice to this industry in every part of the state. I am interested to see where we are, but also what is next for the creative economy.”
The council’s listening tour will focus on trying to identify how creative economy businesses can grow, what support is needed for businesses to grow, and how the council can aid in that growth and development.
The council plans to release a report based on what they hear on the tour to help guide its priorities.
“The CreativeNEXT tour will further promote partnerships with businesses and organizations within the industry and foster opportunities that will strengthen the industry’s economic future across the Commonwealth,” Lieutenant Governor Timothy Murray said in a statement.
