Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary has opened a new state-of-art building on Huntington Avenue that will provide outpatient surgical services in the Longwood Medical Area.
The new 90,000-square-foot facility at 800 Huntington Ave. houses four operating rooms, exam rooms and clinical space for eye care services, and physician offices, according to Mass. Eye and Ear, which operates an eye, ear, nose, throat, head and neck hospital in Beacon Hill.
The institute has also partnered with the Joslin Diabetes Center and Beetham Eye Institute to provide services for patients with diabetes-related vision diseases.
A café and optical shop open to the community will also be on the first floor and the facility plans to add ear, nose, and throat services in the future, according to the Boston Redevelopment Authority.
The building’s interior also has high-contrast colors on walls and furnishings to help visually impaired patients travel through the facility, according to the authority, which celebrated the completed building with a ceremonial ribbon cutting last week.
The building is owned by The Beal Companies and was designed by architecture firm Tsoi/Kobus & Associates.
