It may be moving from its familiar spot on Peterborough Street, but Canestaro has no plans to leave the neighborhood it has called home for more than 20 years.
“We’re not going away,” Stephen Canestaro, owner of the beloved neighborhood eatery, said.
The restaurant's building at 16 Peterborough St. in the West Fens is set to be demolished to make way for apartments, but Canestaro plans to re-open his restaurant in a new location in the area and as close to the neighborhood as possible.
“We want to stay in the neighborhood so we can continue to serve our neighbors and friends,” said Canestaro.
Canestaro, who first opened his restaurant in April 1992, has not found a new spot for the restaurant, be he is actively looking for a new location in the area.
Canestaro has not been told when the restaurant will have to leave its current location and the restaurant is still open.
He hopes to find a new space before he has to leave Peterborough Street in order minimize the time the restaurant has to close for the move and set-up.
