The following is based on a prepared statement sent by Framingham State University:

Framingham State University has been named to the 2013 Guide to Military Friendly Schools, placing the university in the top 15 percent of universities and colleges in the country “that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans, and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.”

The list is produced by Victory Media, Inc., which publishes G.I. Jobs Magazine. It is compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 12,000 schools nationwide that are approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

This is the second consecutive year Framingham State has been included on the list.

This past summer, the university also opened a full-time office dedicated to assisting veterans on campus.

“Inclusion on this influential list demonstrates the dedication this University has to helping military veterans succeed in life and in the classroom,” said Kevin Fields, coordinator of Veterans Services at Framingham State.

Schools on the military friendly list are making the grade by offering scholarships and discounts, veterans clubs, counselors, military credit and other services to those who served, according to Sean Collins, director for G.I. Jobs and vice president at Victory Media.

“Inclusion on the 2013 list of Military Friendly Schools shows Framingham State’s commitment to providing a supportive environment for military students,” Collins said. “As interest in education grows we’re thrilled to provide the military community with transparent, world-class resources to assist in their search for schools.”
