Framingham building commissioner resigns after collecting 100k on administrative leave

Framingham building commissioner Michael Foley has resigned from his position after collecting nearly $100,000 in salary in the past year while on an administrative leave that was triggered by a WBZ-TV investigative report.

Foley was placed on leave last November after the WBZ's I-Team broadcast allegations that he skewed expense reports to get more money, played golf during business hours, and gave his friends breaks on permitting fees.

Foley's resignation take effect today.

"After being on leave for about a year, he voluntarily resigned, and his last day of employment is today," said Bob Halpin, Framingham town manager, declining to comment further.

Town officials said that the allegations against Foley surfaced during a transition between town managers, so the matter was referred to Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone's office for investigation. Foley was appointed in May 2007 by Halpin's predecessor Julian Suso.

Representatives from the Middlesex District Attorney's office said the matter is still under investigation.

Framingham town counsel Chris Petrini was not available for comment. Calls made to Foley's home in Somerville were not answered.
