A Framingham State University student died Friday night when she was struck by a car at the corner of Route 9 and Maynard Road, the university said today.

Colleen Kelly, 21, of Melrose, was a senior English major who lived in Peirce Hall on campus, the university said in a statement. She was struck by the car at about 10:03 p.m.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Colleen’s family, friends and fellow students,” university President Timothy J. Flanagan said. “This tragic loss is felt by the entire Framingham State community. I know we will all be relying on each other for support during this difficult time.”

The university said it has arranged counseling services for students and employees. Framingham State counselors will be on campus throughout the weekend to help students cope with the loss.

“I urge students, faculty, and staff in need of support to visit our counseling center and speak with someone,” Flanagan said.

The accident investigation is being handled by Framingham Police and the State Police reconstruction team, the university said.
