Framingham police say they arrested a man for allegedly snatching two purses Tuesday after his mother reportedly tried to use a credit card stolen in the thefts to buy a bag of syringes.

John Lacroix, whose age and residency was not given by police, allegedly pulled a purse from one woman's shoulder outside the Walgreens at 624 Waverly St. on Tuesday evening and ran away with it, said Framingham Police Lt. Ron Brandolini.

Then, later that evening, Lacroix allegedly stole a woman's purse on Temple Street, knocking her down while he grabbed the handbag from her, Brandolini said.

Lacroix was not armed in either alleged event, Brandolini said.

Later, Lacroix's mother attempted to use a credit card stolen from the Temple Street robbery victim to buy a bag of syringes at the Walgreens on Waverly Street -- where Lacroix allegedly robbed his first victim -- but was denied at check-out, Brandolini said.

When Framingham police arrived at Walgreens, Lacroix's mother allegedly said that her son had given her the credit card after robbing a woman on Temple Street. She also allegedly said that he was involved in the purse robbery at Walgreens, noting that she had seen the stolen purse just after the robbery, Brandolini said.

Lacroix was arrested and charged with two counts of unarmed robbery. His mother has no charges filed against her at this time, Brandolini said.

The case is under investigation, Brandolini said.
