Framingham police are searching for a man clad in ace bandages who allegedly robbed the Gold Refinery jeweler on Route 9 and assaulted an employee.

At about 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, a man walked into the jeweler saying he wanted to sell a bracelet for $10, according to police Lieutenant Ronald Brandolini. The man then brandished a semiautomatic pistol and demanded money from a female employee who was working alone.

After the employee handed over cash, the man said he wanted to take her into the store’s back room, according to police.

“She screamed and he punched her in the face,” Brandolini said. The man then left the store.

It was not known if he ran or drove away. The employee sought treatment at MetroWest Medical Center.

There was no surveillance footage of the incident available, Brandolini said, and it was unknown in which direction the man fled.

The suspect was described as a black man in his 40s or 50s, around 6 feet 2 inches tall.

“Apparently he had ace bandages wrapped around most of his head and face and hand, which is odd,” Brandolini said.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Framingham police at (508) 532-5924.
