Local cancer patients need volunteers to drive them to and from chemotherapy and/or radiation treatments.

The American Cancer Society's Road to Recovery program is seeking volunteers to offer their cars and their time to meet the pressing needs of cancer patients unable to arrange their own transportation. In 2012, the American Cancer Society provided more than 8,000 rides to Massachusetts cancer patients, according to a press release.

Treatment appointments take place on weekdays, usually during business hours.

Call 800.227.2345 or visit cancer.org to learn more and sign up as volunteer.
