A Pembroke man was arrested Saturday on charges of aggravated rape and kidnapping after he allegedly drove a woman around in his vehicle for several hours against her will before raping her in a wooded area of Hanson, police said.
Anthony J. Vega is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Plymouth District Court, according to a statement from Hanson police.
Vega allegedly offered a ride to the victim, a 34-year-old woman from the Boston area, before the ordeal began. The woman was able to escape and eventually got a ride to the Hanover Police Department. She was treated for undisclosed injuries at a hospital.
Police said she told detectives in Pembroke and Hanover her attacker’s name and license plate number, which she had written on her hand before escaping.
Vega was arrested at a hospital in Brockton where he was being treated for an undisclosed illness. Police did not say when or where the kidnapping began.
