Work on Strait's Bridge starts slowly

Posted June 9, 2009 05:02 PM

Work is finally starting on replacing Strait’s Bridge at the intersection of Hull, Cohasset, and Hingham – but major construction won’t begin until after Labor Day, according to Hull's director of public works, Joseph Stigliani.

Stigliani said the contractors for the $2.5 million project, which is being paid by the state and has been in the planning stage for years, will be allowed to close one lane of traffic intermittently through the summer. But contractors won’t be able to detour vehicles and close the road entirely until Labor Day, and then only for 45 days, he said.

The project is expected to take two (cq) construction seasons, he said, and the final result will be a new bridge, culvert and tide gate.
