Police are looking for a man believed to have broken into a Hingham home on Tuesday.

According to police, a passerby noticed a man walking from a house on Accord Pond Drive carrying a black bag. The man got into the passenger side of the vehicle parked in front of the house, then the vehicle made a right turn onto Whiting Street and headed toward Norwell.

Officers responded to the house and found the front door partially open and the rear slider glass door smashed.

Police believe the suspect had entered through the rear slider and walked out the front door. The inside of the home appeared ransacked, and jewelry was taken.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5’9”, wearing a black knit hat and a black jacket with the hood up. The witness could not describe the driver.

The vehicle is described as dark blue or black new model Volkswagen Beetle that was very dirty or dusty.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Hingham Police at 781-749-1212 or leave an anonymous tip at www.hpd.org at the Drop-A-Dime link.
