The South Shore has long been a hub for young talent, and now Derby Street Shoppes are looking to capitalize on the region’s ability.

The Hingham shopping center will host a video contest for Massachusetts residents ages 13 through 20, inviting anyone with singing, dancing, acting, fashion, or art talent to create an advertisement for the Shoppes.

“Dreaming in Color” is not just about the online interaction, requiring contestants to upload a two-minute video clip of their entry to YouTube. It's also an in-person performance, as 10 contestants will be chosen to perform their advertisement at the Derby Street Shoppes’ Dreaming in Color event on May 19 from noon to 2 p.m.

The top five winners will receive $1,000. Five runners up will receive $250.

The winners will be notified by May 11, and merchants from the Shoppes will be sponsoring clothing and accessories for the event.

“Performers may be asked to incorporate merchants’ clothing or accessories into their performance,” a release said.

Sponsored by SR Weiner & Associates Inc. and W/S Development Associates LLC, overall the event will highlight the Shoppes as well as the talents of the region's youth.

“The team at Derby Street is beyond excited for this unique contest and event,” said Niamh O’Maille, marketing coordinator for the Shoppes. “We know that there are so many talented teens and young adults out there, so we are giving them the chance to showcase their best talents to the Hingham and surrounding South Shore community. We want to reward young people for being creative and stepping outside of the box, which has always been the Derby Street Shoppes’ way.”

Video entries must be submitted before Friday, May 4, at 5 p.m. and contestants must be available to perform on the event date.

Any contestant under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to the audition and must sign their own release form to the live event.
