Hingham police have cited the driver of the postal van that struck a four-year old-Hingham resident Monday.

According to police, investigation showed that the postal vehicle was traveling east on Huntley Road when the 21-year-old male driver, from North Weymouth, made a right onto Forest Lane heading south.

After making the turn, the left front of the van struck the girl, who was headed south on Forest Lane.

The driver was cited for failure to use yield or slow for a bicyclist. Because the infraction is civil, similar to a speeding ticket or stop sign violation, his name has not been released.

As for the girl, she was treated and released from the hospital the same day.

“We are very glad she was wearing a properly fitted bicycle helmet,” said Sergeant Steven Dearth with the Hingham Police Department.
