J.Jill locations across Massachusetts are giving back this evening, offering a portion of their sales to a local charity.
Customers who shop at the location from 4 to 8 p.m. today will have 20 percent of their sale go to Wellspring House in Gloucester, an organization focused on providing basic assistance, education, and job training for those in need.
“It’s not about the dollar amount raised from the efforts of the six events tonight throughout Boston, but about the awareness we hope to bring to Wellspring House and the amazing services it provides to the community and women in need,” said Debra Fernandes, Manager of J.Jill Corporate Communications in an email.
The event, which also offers customers 15 percent off their purchases, is the first of its kind the store has done. Among the stores articipating are those at the South Shore Plaza in Braintree and Derby Street Shoppes in Hingham.
Four other Massachusetts locations are also participating in the “All Together Now” event. The chain is also hosting a similar set of fund-raisers at stores in Chicago for a charity there.
Organizers are anticipating a high turnout for the event, Fernandes said.
“They are tied to a great cause. Who wouldn’t want to shop while also giving back to the community that they live in?” Fernandes said.
While The J.Jill Compassion Fund has donated more than $3 million throughout the past 10 years through other fund-raisers, this most recent holiday season inspired a new type of campaign.
“We wanted to partner with an organization that gave back to the community in a strong and inspiring way. Indirectly our customers came up with the idea as they inspire us to continue to give back because of their continued support of The J.Jill Compassion Fund,” Fernandes said.
The event is timed to coincide with J.Jill’s new winter collection.
