Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino met this week with the seasonal staff of the ReadBoston Storymobile, which recently ended its summer operations.

The four young women, who hail from Hyde Park and West Roxbury, have worked all over Boston this summer to provide city children with access to books and to encourage them to read when school is out, city officials said in a statement.

From July 8 to Aug. 16, the Storymobile visited sites in neighborhoods across Boston to offer storytelling events and free new books to each child in attendance. Its staff included Lucia Bostrom of West Roxbury and Hyde Park residents Jasmine Colon, Raina Jaques, and Stephanie Quintana.

Menino founded ReadBoston in 1995 to try to ensure all the city’s children are reading at the appropriate grade level by the end of the third grade.

The non-profit children’s literacy program works with Boston Public Schools, childcare facilities, early education centers, after-school programs, and community organizations to build sustainable literacy programs and practices.
