A 21-year-old Dorchester man was shot in the Hyde Square section of Jamaica Plain early Monday morning during a party attended by more than 30 teenagers and young adults – many of whom go to the same local school, according to Boston Police.

Responding officers found the man sitting and bleeding from his left shoulder in the back of a third-floor apartment at 130 Day St. at about 1:40 a.m. Monday, police spokeswoman Officer Nicole Grant said about the incident that was first reported by Jamaica Plain Patch.

The man, suffering non-life threatening injuries from an apparent gunshot wound, was taken to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, police said.

There were between 30 and 40 teenagers and young adults inside the apartment when officers responded to a call for a person shot outside of the residence, Grant said.

The apartment’s owner told officers that she held a party for her daughter and that most of the young people at the party attend the same school in the area, according to the police spokeswoman.

Between three and four black males were seen leaving the area in a motor vehicle and were considered possible suspects, she said.

No arrests have been made, Grant said. Detectives from Boston Police District E-13 in Jamaica Plain are investigating.

She said that the police report from responding officers does not include any further details about the incident, the nature of the party or possible suspects.

Grant said police records show that over the past year there have been no other reports of gunshots or other serious incidents in that area. However, property crimes, including reports of breaking and entering and car break-ins, have been recorded.

Anyone with information is asked to call District E-13 detectives at 617-343-5628. Those who wish to provide information anonymously can call the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1-800-494-TIPS or texting the word ’TIP’ to CRIME (27463).
