MBTA investigating concrete that apparently fell from Forest Hills Station ceiling to passenger platform

MBTA officials are investigating what caused pieces of concrete to apparently fall from the ceiling of the Forest Hills Station late Monday or early Tuesday onto a platform area where commuter rail riders get on and off trains, officials said.

The falling concrete did not cause injuries or affect commuter rail service, T spokesman Joe Pesaturo said.

He said an engineering and maintenance crew has closed off a small area of the platform so workers can inspect the ceiling.

The spokesman said that “it appears that some small pieces of concrete had fallen from the ceiling,” but officials have not yet determined what caused the concrete to fall.

“If any pieces of concrete appear to be loose, they will be removed,” Pesaturo said.

The T sent crews to the platform this morning, shortly after someone posted a photo of the concrete chunks to CitizensConnect, the City of Boston’s online tool for reporting issues.

The Universal Hub blog first reported about that photo this morning.
