Villalona, a Jamaica Plain resident, was found shot in the chest in the backyard of 104 Minden St. at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday and was later pronounced dead at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, according to a statement from police.

In a separate statement, police said a gun was found in a playground a few blocks away the morning after the shooting, but authorities did not indicate whether they believe there is any connection between that gun and the shooting. The gun was found near 9 Evergreen St. at about 11 a.m. Monday.

Earlier this week, Boston Police announced in another statement they were searching for a Ford Flex car that was seen driving “in close proximity” to the scene of the shooting. That statement said members of the police department’s homicide unit want to speak to those who were in the car, but authorities did not specify why.

Anyone with information about the shooting, the gun, the car or its occupants is asked to call the Boston Police homicide unit at 617-343-4470. Information can also be provided anonymously by calling the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 1-800-494-TIPS or by texting the word “TIP” to CRIME (27463).
