A puppy rescued from a trash bin in Barnstable is looking for a new home.

The pit bull mix has been recovering from a broken jaw. Veterinarians believe he suffered the injury in February when the then-7-week-old puppy was tossed into the dumpster.

He was found there and rescued by a Good Samaritan, who brought him to the MSPCA-Angell animal medical center in Jamaica Plain, where staff named him Oscar.

But, unlike the Muppet character from Sesame Street, he has been anything but a grouch, according to veterinarians.

Despite his ordeal, “the spirited and playful puppy wanted nothing more than to cuddle with the veterinary staff who tended to him upon his arrival,” the animal center said in a statement.

Staff said his jaw is healing well. He’s been neutered, is up to date on all of his shots and will be microchipped before he goes home with a new family.

Those interested in adopting Oscar or other pets can contact the center by e-mailing adoption@mspca.org.
