City Councilor Matt O’Malley, who holds his district office hours at different locations in Jamaica Plain and West Roxbury each month, will add a visit to the Egleston Farmers Market in June.

O’Malley will be available to address residents’ issues and concerns at the Egleston Farmers Market at the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Hall, 45 Brookside Ave., on Saturday, June 15 from 10 to 11 am.

“I am looking forward to meeting with residents and getting some shopping done,” said a statement from O’Malley, who represents District 6 which consists of Jamaica Plain, West Roxbury, parts of Roslindale and Roxbury, and Mission Hill. “The Egleston Farmers Market is a great opportunity for the community to come together. Events like this break down barriers and draw residents from all corners of Jamaica Plain and beyond.”

The farmers market offers a variety of foods, including produce, meat, fish, eggs, cheese and break. Jamaica Plain residents and organizations like Egleston Square Main Streets and the Jamaica Plain New Economy Transition launched the market in the fall of 2012.

“We strive not only to be a shopping destination for our neighborhood, but also a space that reinforces the sense of community,” said a statement from Kate Peppard, market director and co-founder. “Providing access for our neighbors to their elected officials dovetails nicely with this vision.”

O’Malley holds regular office hours in coffee shops across the district every month and has also tried other ways, including holding office hours while running.

“District office hours are a great way for me to connect directly with constituents in the neighborhood whether it’s at a coffee shop, during a jog around the block or at a great community gathering like the farmers market,” O’Malley’s statement said. “It’s not convenient for everyone to travel to City Hall to meet in person. My goal is to make it easier for residents who have an issue or a question or who just want to say ‘hello.’”

The councilor’s additional June office hours will be held on:
Friday, June 7 from 8 to 9 a.m. at Caffé Aromi, 403A Centre St. in Jamaica Plain. Neighborhood liaison Beatriz Rivera will also attend.

Friday, June 21 from 8 to 9 a.m. at Baker Baker, 168 Spring St. in West Roxbury. Neighborhood liaison Bill MacGregor will also attend.

O’Malley’s City Hall office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. To reach his office call 617-635-4220.
