Lexington teen Benjamin Tso, 14, was named the national champion at the US Tennis Association’s 14 and under national championship last weekend in San Antonio.

Tso, who is ranked second in the country in his age group, will be a freshman at Lexington High School in the fall.

“We are especially proud as Benjamin attends public school…the vast majority of the top ranked players nationally are either home schooled or attend a tennis academy in Florida, Texas or California,” said his father, Li Tso.

His parents added that Tso is a straight-A student.  He trains with coach Jeff Bearup at the New England Tennis Academy in Natick.

He has also won New England Sectional tournaments each of the last three years and he came in second at July’s USTA national clay court championship.
