A children’s book store is planning to open in Lexington Center in December where it is aiming to fill some of the gap left behind by the closure of Waldenbooks and Sundial Bookstore.

The Elephant’s Trunk book store will open at 1764 Massachusetts Ave. (the site of the old Kosroff's Jewelry), said store owner Danielle Kreger.

Kreger said she’s signed a lease and is now waiting on some bookshelves to set up the store, which will offer books and select toys for newborns to teenagers.

Kreger, 28, of Boston, said she’s hoping the store will address a need in Lexington Center, where Waldenbooks closed in January of 2009 and Sundial Bookstore closed in the summer of 2008.

“I know Lexington at one time had a few book stores and now nothing is there,” Kreger said.

In addition to selling children’s books, Kreger said her store will also host story times, author events and special programming.
