Lexington Police are urging residents to keep their vehicle doors locked after more than 40 cars were broken into during the holidays.
Christmas gifts, a bottle of champagne and GPS units were stolen from the vehicles, all of which were unlocked, said Lexington Police Lt. James Barry.
Barry said most of the break-ins occurred in the area of Woburn Street and on the other side of Massachusetts Avenue along Winthrop Road. Police believe the break-ins occurred on Dec. 23, but Barry said some residents did not report their vehicles being broken into until several days later.
Police continue to investigate the break-ins, but Barry said there is little evidence to go on. He said keeping car doors locked and refraining from leaving items inside a vehicle are the best ways to prevent break-ins.
