The town expects to install two electric-car charging stations in the parking lot along Grant Street near the Minuteman Bikeway this month. Lexington is one of 25 Massachusetts communities receiving the charging stations through a $384,000 settlement by an Ohio-based power plant for pollution-control violations, along with roughly $500,000 in federal grant money.

The state Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs used Lexington’s Battle Green for the setting when it announced the program in July; another 48 stations will be set up at state facilities, such as MBTA commuter-rail lots, as a way to encourage the use of electric vehicles. Selectmen have also authorized Town Manager Carl Valente to look for a suitable location for a third charging station.
