Students in one of French teacher Christine Goulet's classes at Diamond Middle School show off their projects to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty.

Joyeux Anniversaire!

During the week of October 24, 2011 French students and their teachers at the William Diamond Middle School led a school-wide celebration of the 125th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty.

Along with learning about the history and symbolism of Lady Liberty, students studied cultural symbols in both American and French cultures and discussed the meaning of la libertÈ.

The week culminated with the entire school body coming to school dressed in green or as the statue herself.

French students also completed an original project to commemorate this event, which are now all on display throughout the school.

Many French students have chosen to submit their work to a Transatlantic Art contest, sponsored by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, in celebration of this special event in Franco-American relations.
