Pulitzer Prize-winning author Tony Horwitz will give a lecture at the National Heritage Museum next month on John Brown’s raid on Harpers Ferry before the Civil War.

Horwitz,_Tony_-_Randi_Baird.jpgThe free lecture will be based on Horwitz’s book “Midnight Rising: John Brown and the Civil War” and will be held Saturday, March 10, at 2 p.m. It will be followed by a book signing.

Horwitz’s book examines the 1859 raid by Brown, an abolitionist, on Harpers Ferry in Virginia, as well as a look at the nation on the brink of explosive conflict.

The lecture is part of a free series being offered by the museum this year to mark the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. The series is designed to explore the history of the divisive war and its meaning for the nation today.
