Lexington man who owns Medford magic shop charged with $500,000 credit card fraud
A 61-year-old Lexington man faces federal charges that he made more than $500,000 in unauthorized charges on the credit card of a man who was a longtime customer at his Medford magic shop.
Harry P. Levy, 61, was charged with credit card fraud and making false statements and false records, according to US Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz.
According to Ortiz, from July 23, 2009, through May 5, 2011, Levy, owner of
Hank Lee’s Magic Factory, made approximately $561,927 in unauthorized charges to an American Express card of a victim identified as R.G. The charges against Levy allege that R.G. was a wealthy, longtime customer of Levy’s from Texas.
According to the charges, during an investigation of the fraud last fall, Levy willfully gave federal agents documents and statements to establish that the charges had been authorized by R.G.
If convicted, Levy faces up to 15 years in prison for the credit card fraud and five years in prison for the false statements and records, to be followed by three years of supervised release, forfeiture, restitution, and a fine of $250,000 or twice the gain or loss, whichever is highest.
