With three weeks until the primaries, candidates running to succeed state Senator Susan Fargo will square off in forums to be held in Concord Wednesday night.

The League of Women Voters of Concord-Carlisle is hosting the debate at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15 at the Harvey Wheeler Community Center at 1276 Main St., West Concord.

Republicans Greg Howes, of Concord, and Sandi Martinez, of Chelmsford, will sit on the first panel for the evening. They will be followed by the five Democrats also running for the 3rd Middlesex District seat: Mike Barrett of Lexington, Alex Buck of Chelmsford, Mara Dolan of Concord, Joe Kearns Goodwin of Concord, and Joe Mullin of Weston.

Fargo, D-Lincoln, is retiring from the state senate seat, which represents Bedford; Carlisle; Chelmsford; Concord; Lincoln; Waltham; Weston; precincts 3, 8, and 9 in Lexington; and precincts 1, 4 and 5 in Sudbury.

Following opening statements at the forum Wednesday, candidates will answer questions from the League of Women Voters and from audience members. Former League of Women Voters of Massachusetts President Nancy Carapezza of Wayland will moderate.

The candidates night is free and open to the public. The primaries will be held on Sept. 6, followed by the general election on Nov. 6.
