The potential for a substantial business expansion in Lexington has prompted the Board of Selectmen to call for a Special Town Meeting in November in an effort to help facilitate the growth.
Town Manager Carl Valente told the Board of Selectmen Monday that Vistaprint Inc., an online supplier of graphic design services and customized print products, is looking to expand its office in Lexington.
Headquartered in Paris, France, Vistaprint runs its United States operations out of Two Ledgemont Center at 95 Hayden Ave. Valente said FM Global, the owner of Two Ledgemont Center, and its property manager, Hobbs Brook Management, are moving forward with plans to build a third 160,000 square-foot building at the site, and Vistaprint is considering expanding into about 100,000 square feet of the new building.
Valente said Vistaprint is seeking from the town a tax incentive financing agreement, which provide tax credits for eligible commercial expansions and job growth. Valente said Town Meeting must approve the agreement, and Vistaprint is trying to decide by the end of the year if it will expand in Lexington.
Selectmen voted in favor of scheduling a Special Town Meeting for 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 19 in the Cary Memorial Building. Several other articles are also likely to be included on the warrant, including a proposal for electronic voting at Town Meeting and funding for a road at the new Estabrook Elementary School.
The warrant for the meeting was opened Monday night and will close at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27.
