The Lincoln-Sudbury School Committee announced Oct. 1 that it has voted unanimously to extend the contract of Bella Wong, interim superintendent/principal, through the 2014-2015 academic year.

Officials say the decision was made to provide a continuity of leadership at a time when high school administrators are new to their roles. Several new initiatives are also being implemented, including a statewide educator evaluation.

“We are pleased to have extended Bella’s contract for an additional year in order to provide stable leadership at an important time,” said Radha Gargeya, chair of the Lincoln-Sudbury Regional School Committee.

Wong was hired at Lincoln-Sudbury in July as interim superintendent/principal following five years as superintendent and six years as asssistant superintendent in the Wellesley Public Schools. The School Committee plans to re-evaluate its strategy for hiring a permanent superintendent-principal at the end of the current academic year, with input from the community.

Wong, a former Wellesley schools superintendent, was in the middle of a controversy last month when she failed to conduct a moment of silence Wednesday to commemorate the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attack.
