The following was submitted by Operation Bootstrap:

There will be a full evening of music and dance at Operation Bootstrap’s April 26 Gala Celebration at Lynn Museum honoring Mary Sarris, Executive Director of the North Shore Workforce Investment Board.

The evening will begin with selections by singer and musician Julio Bare who is well-recognized for his many appearances at folk festivals and local events and venues.

Ten children in the Cultura Latina Dance Program, ages 3 to 12, will perform Merengue, Mangulina, and Bachata. The teen and adult salsa dance group Cultura Latina, will perform and also offer salsa dance instruction. Both dance groups are choreographed by Yaya, a professional Latin rhythm dance instructor in Lynn. Born and raised in the Dominican Republic, she has been involved in the art of dancing her whole life and has been a professional trainer, teacher and performer since 2002. As an active member of the Lynn community, her deepest passion is to get the community involved in the art of dance.

Also featured will be The JDK Trio, a jazz group starring Pingree School sophomore Jack Fantini on drums, sophomore Dan Peters on keyboard, and junior Kian McGee on guitar and bass. The trio has played at “Taste of the South Shore” at Lombardo’s in Randolph and at The Walnut Street Café in Lynn.

Operation Bootstrap graduate Sara Rodriguez will be a featured speaker. Her goal is to become a doctor in neuropsychology and work with children. She is now attending Harvard’s Extension School.

The evening’s festivities will culminate in the presentation of the “2013 Adult Education Leadership Award” to Sarris in recognition of her leadership in helping to bridge the gap between adult edu¬cation and workforce development.

Operation Bootstrap, Inc., the Lynn-based adult learning center and 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is working to address the harsh realities that 30,000 adults in Lynn have less than a high school diploma or have limited English proficiency. Bootstrap provides free classes in English, Adult Basic Education, GED preparation, U.S. Citizenship, and college preparation in advanced manufacturing and allied health.

The Gala Celebration will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 26 at Lynn Museum & Historical Society located at 590 Washington Street in Lynn and will continue through 9 p.m.

And there will be an extensive buffet of delightful international cuisine prepared by local Lynn restaurants.

Major sponsors of this event include Eastern Bank, Metro Credit Union, and St. Pius V Parish.

The public is warmly invited to attend. Tickets are $50 each and can be purchased by sending a check to Operation Bootstrap, 20 Wheeler St., 2nd Floor, Lynn, MA 01902.
