The following was submitted by the Mystic Valley Regional Charter School:
Three members of Mystic Valley’s baseball team were recently named to the Commonwealth Athletic Conference all star team. Nick Russo, Devin Pierce and Matt O’Connor were all named to the team. The trio helped lead the Eagles to a surprising appearance in the MIAA Tournament. Head Coach, Ernie Ardolino had high praise for his three all stars:
“Nick Russo was without a doubt the heart and soul of this team. He was asked to pitch for the first time this year and had tremendous success while continuing to be one of the best hitters in the CAC. Nick finished the season with a 4-3 record, 1 save, and 2.86 ERA while having 44 strikeouts in 47 innings pitched. Offensively, Nick hit .459 with 18 RBI’s in 19 games.
Sophomore Devin Pierce was a nice addition to the team this year, in his first year he gave us versatility that was much needed after graduating so many players last year. Devin played all 3 outfield positions as well as pitching and catching. Devin hit .389 this year with 14 RBI’s.
Freshman Matt O’Connor had a record-breaking season. The last of the O’Connor boys to come through Mystic Valley he dominated the CAC in his second year on the team. Matt was 4-2 with a 3.16 era in 48 innings pitched while breaking Pat Holden’s single season Mystic Valley strikeout record. He had a league leading 77 strikeouts (1.6 per inning).”
