Statement from Malden Taxpayers for Accountability
TAX PAYER GROUP CERTIFIES 5,114 SIGNATURES. EXPECTS CITY COUNCIL TO APPROVE BALLOT QUESTION FOR CITIZEN’S TO DECIDE FATE OF THE PAY AS YOU THROW TRASH TAX.
MALDEN, MA, MAY 30, 2009: On May 19, 2009 the Malden Taxpayers for Accountability closes out their signature campaign to have the Malden City Council either rescind the Pay as You Throw Trash Program or place it on the ballot on Election Day November 3, 2009. The group has made offers to sit down on numerous occasions with City Government to discuss the Fee/Tax but has been unsuccessful in their efforts to get the current administration to meet with them. They make offers to debate the Controller, Special Assistant to the Mayor, Trash Tax Seven Members (Councilors/Administration that vote for the PAYT) and the Mayor in the fall and their requests have fallen on deaf ears.
They want the Citizen’s of Malden to never forget why the blue trash tax bags are on the shelf at the stores and will be on this year’s ballot:
· In a democracy the Citizen’s of Malden deserve to have their voices heard.
· We support recycle efforts of the City. We just want a discussion on which program is best for us.
· Our City leaders should never forget that the Pay as You Throw Trash Tax was implemented the last day of the City Council session without our input by its citizens.
· Did the Taxpayers and the City Employee’s really need to help City Hall balance their budget? When there are millions of our taxed dollars stuffed into accounts that appear and disappear when money is needed by the Administration. Did you like the $518,000 that was stolen from right from under our City government’s watchful eyes?
· It’s your right to decide if the ends really do justify the means as State Guidelines from the Department of Environmental Protection tell the City to get feedback first from the community to eliminate the perception of a tax. Did they do this? No!
To augment the expenses associated with running a campaign the organization is selling a MTFA Trash Tax button for a donation of $5.00 (picture provided)
We want and need to hear from you.
Please feel free to contact us via email at info@maldentax.com, visit our blogs at www.maldentax.com or call 781-420-3818. We will gladly discuss our views and why we need your support. Come join us and the many thousands of people that we expect to vote on Election Day. Become a volunteer campaign worker to demonstrate to City Hall that enough is enough and they must make the effort to engage us first when they want to take additional money from our pocketbooks.

I am glad that this is finally going to be on the ballot, I just hope that everyone is going to get used to the bags and let it be., that would be a shame.
