Malden native and exercise guru John Wayman can add film promoter to his resume.

He'll be at a special screening on Thursday of "G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra" at Boston's Regal Fenway Theater, where he'll draw the winner of his G.I. Joe Makeover raffle. The winner gets two free months of Beantown Bootcamp, his rigorous personal training program.

Wayman - a former cross country and track athlete at Malden High, where he graduated in 1991 - has never promoted a film before, and he didn't come looking for this opportunity. Instead, PR powerhouse Terry Hines and Associates - which has an office in Boston and promotes movies nationwide - asked him to jump on board.

"We are hopeful that this will open up an opportunity to work with the film industry that is continuing to expand in Boston and the surrounding areas," Wayman said in an email.

He became interested in fitness as an adolescent.

"I remember getting a small weight bench and weight set for Christmas when I was 14 and learning about fundamental resistance exercises," Wayman said. "My first passion even then was strength and conditioning."

He's channeled that passion into a profession, commuting into Boston each from his hometown over the border, in Nashua. He said he hopes to move back to the Boston area soon, possibly to Malden.

Wayman has also organized clients to run in teams raising money for charity during the Boston Marathon, Hyannis Half Marathon, and Hampton Half Marathon, among other events.

"The Business Plan for Beantown Bootcamp, LLC anticipates that we will begin to arrange our own events given the strong participation that we have seen from our members," Wayman said.

He also hopes his promotional work for G.I. Joe will inspire more area residents to keep fit.

"I hope that this co-promotion will help raise awareness of how much we control our destiny in the way we treat our bodies," Wayman said.
